Kaum ein Rennwagen vereint spektakul\u00e4ren Sound, zeitloses Design und \u00fcberzeugende Performance so eindrucksvoll wie der BMW M1 Procar. Beim DRM-Revival des BELMOT Oldtimer-Grand-Prix geh\u00f6ren die Exemplare von Michael Kammermann und Roger Waber zur Spitze des Feldes. Hinter den gewaltigen Gruppe-5-Capri sind die beiden Mittelmotor-Boliden die ersten Verfolger \u2013 und bei den Fans ohnehin ganz vorne dabei.<\/em><\/p>\n

Rennwagen mit Formel-1-Vergangenheit<\/h2>\n

Der BMW M1 Procar entstand f\u00fcr einen Markenpokal, der 1979 und 1980 im Rahmen europ\u00e4ischer Formel-1-Wochenenden ausgetragen wurde. Dabei trafen Grand-Prix-Stars auf Privatfahrer und Spezialisten aus anderen Rennserien \u2013 in weitgehend identischen Fahrzeugen. Niki Lauda gewann die erste Saison, Nelson Piquet die zweite.<\/p>\n

Nur etwas mehr als 50 M1 wurden im Procar-Renntrim aufgebaut. Angetrieben wurden sie von einem 3,5-Liter-Reihensechszylinder mit rund 470 PS. Das Triebwerk sa\u00df unmittelbar hinter dem Fahrer und verlieh dem M1 nicht nur seine ausgewogene Gewichtsverteilung, sondern auch seine unverwechselbare Ger\u00e4uschkulisse.<\/p>\n

Erstaunlich modern und gutm\u00fctig \u2013 bis zum Grenzbereich<\/h2>\n

Michael Kammermann bewegt beim DRM-Revival die #40. Der Motor leistet in der heutigen Abstimmung knapp 480 PS. Motor, Getriebe und gro\u00dfe Teile des Fahrwerks stammen nach seinen Angaben noch aus der damaligen Zeit.<\/p>\n

Wer einen Rennwagen aus den sp\u00e4ten Siebzigerjahren erwartet, der st\u00e4ndig mit Widerstand und Eigenwilligkeiten auf sich aufmerksam macht, wird vom M1 \u00fcberrascht. Kammermann beschreibt ein Auto mit viel Grip, einer sehr ausgewogenen Balance und einem Fahrverhalten, das schnell Vertrauen schafft. Der Procar f\u00fchle sich erstaunlich modern an.<\/p>\n

Ein Selbstl\u00e4ufer ist er dennoch nicht. Je n\u00e4her der Fahrer an den Grenzbereich kommt, desto deutlicher meldet sich der M1 zu Wort. Dann \u201ef\u00e4ngt er irgendwann an zu zucken\u201c, beschreibt er. Genau dort zeigt sich, dass trotz aller Ausgewogenheit ein fast 50 Jahre alter Rennwagen bewegt wird \u2013 ohne elektronische Helfer und mit reichlich Leistung an der Hinterachse.<\/p>\n

Auch Roger Waber, der den M1 Procar #70 f\u00e4hrt, sch\u00e4tzt dieses unmittelbare Erlebnis. Seine Verbindung zu BMW reicht bis in die Kindheit zur\u00fcck: Der Vater fuhr Fahrzeuge der Marke, die Familie betrieb einen Karosseriebetrieb und war im Motorsport aktiv. Der M1 wurde f\u00fcr ihn fr\u00fch zum Wunschauto.<\/p>\n

Ein Auto, das Arbeit verlangt<\/h2>\n

Besonders faszinieren Waber der Motor direkt hinter dem Fahrer und der Sound des hochdrehenden Sechszylinders. Doch die N\u00e4he zum Triebwerk bedeutet nicht nur akustisches Vergn\u00fcgen. Schalten, lenken, bremsen und das Auto im Grenzbereich kontrollieren \u2013 all das verlangt vollen Einsatz. \u201eEs ist ein altes Auto, und da musst du schon arbeiten\u201c, sagt Waber.<\/p>\n

Im Feld des DRM-Revivals treffen die beiden M1 auf noch extremere Konstruktionen. Die hochger\u00fcsteten Gruppe-5-Capri spielen mit ihrer Turbo-Leistung und ausgepr\u00e4gten Aerodynamik in einer eigenen Liga. Unmittelbar dahinter geh\u00f6ren Kammermann und Waber mit ihren Procar-BMW jedoch zu den st\u00e4rksten Fahrzeugen des Feldes.<\/p>\n

Dass der M1 dabei zu den erkl\u00e4rten Publikumslieblingen z\u00e4hlt, liegt nicht allein an seiner Performance. Seine klare Linienf\u00fchrung, der charakteristische Sechszylinder-Sound und das sichtbare Arbeiten der Fahrer ergeben ein Gesamtpaket, das auch fast ein halbes Jahrhundert nach der Procar-Serie nichts von seiner Wirkung verloren hat.<\/p>\n
